2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon Officially Launched in Accra
The 2026 Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon has officially been launched in Accra, setting the stage for thousands of runners, fitness enthusiasts and members of the wider community to come together for one of the capital’s major road-running events.
The official launch took place at Zimansky Hotel, Roman Ridge, bringing together sports administrators, athletes, para-athletes, corporate sponsors, representatives of Ghana’s security services and members of the media.
The marathon is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, with organisers targeting more than 2,000 participants.
Promoting Fitness and Healthy Living
The event was officially launched by Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority, who highlighted the marathon’s role in encouraging physical fitness, healthy living and wider participation in sport.
The 2026 edition is being organised by Medivents Consult, with Tampico serving as headline sponsor.

21KM and 5KM Races for Different Levels of Runners
The 2026 marathon will feature two main race categories:
21 kilometres for experienced and competitive runners, and 5 kilometres for recreational runners, fitness groups and members of the general public.
The Trust Sports Emporium — popularly known as the Bukom Boxing Arena — will serve as both the starting and finishing point for the event.
Participants will run through selected streets of Accra before returning to the Trust Sports Emporium for the finish and accompanying activities.

Ghana Athletics Endorses the Marathon
Another significant development for the 2026 edition is the endorsement of the marathon by Ghana Athletics, the governing body for athletics in Ghana.
For the first time, an electronic timing system is expected to be introduced at the event, improving the accuracy and credibility of recorded race times.
The technology is intended to provide more reliable results for participants while strengthening the professional organisation of the race.
This represents an important step in the continued development of the Accra Inter-City Marathon.
